Arcanites Honoured at the 2020 Arcane Value Awards

Arcanites Honoured at the 2020 Arcane Value Awards

Arcane is, by definition, a bit mysterious.

But despite our flair for intrigue, there’s one thing we’ve always been straight up about:

Our people come first.

And we have great people.

And great people deserve to be recognized.

That’s why we take a moment every year to celebrate five individuals who live our values at the Annual General Meeting.

From the Magician, who embodies the true meaning of an Arcanite, to Empowerment, Accountability, and beyond, these awards honour those who consistently demonstrate that it’s not what we do, it’s who we do it with.

These are the 2020 winners.

Why Do You Work at Arcane?

Trevor Carter, Magician

Working at Arcane is like an extreme sport sometimes. It’s fast, challenging, and intense. I think I’m hooked on the adrenaline rush. But what makes Arcane special is that none of us are doing this alone; we look out for one another, genuinely care about one another, have fun together, and achieve cool things with our collective talents.

Charlotte Emeljanow, Accountability

For me, it all comes down to the people. The leaders that I get to work with on a daily basis have so much faith in me that I’ve had real opportunities to carve my own path and put my own stamp on the work we’re producing here. I haven’t been doing this long, but they trust me to do it well and I think that’s pretty cool.

Qyn Bayley-Hay, Empowerment

Arcane allows me to grow without barriers in an environment that supports change. It’s been a wild ride over the past year, but looking back at my path, the absolute rock of a foundation that my fellow Arcanites provided was the main reason I’m still here today.

Heather Budd, Integrity & Respect

I adore working at Arcane. I’m passionate about my clients and love the culture that’s been built here. I love being able to work with some of the most skilled and genuinely cool and kind people in Canada.

Greg Vanigasooriyar, Balance & Fun

The biggest reason is probably the people. We have an amazing team filled with so many amazing and different individuals. I also like the variety of work I’m able to do and the different clients I’m able to help.

What Does It Mean to Be an Arcanite?

Trevor Carter, Magician

Arcanites are incredibly smart and incredibly human. They approach their work with excitement and curiosity. They lead a full life outside of Arcane, which they approach with the same excitement.

I’ve interviewed countless job candidates and I know someone might be an Arcanite when they get excited talking about their skills, they smile when they talk about their passions outside of work, and they’re comfortable and authentic enough to laugh.

Charlotte Emeljanow, Accountability

On my first day as an intern, the COO sat down at my desk to get to know me. I didn’t even realize he was the COO at the time. I thought he was just a friendly guy. That, to me, sums Arcane up pretty nicely.

We’re a gritty group. We’re smart and passionate and creative. But you will never see anyone with an ego. As long as you love what you do, you’re welcome here.

Qyn Bayley-Hay, Empowerment

Being an Arcanite means being one of a passionate team of marketers who all believe in the same common goal: collaborating to get the best results for our clients. Arcane fosters an environment of teamwork, growth, and having fun while doing it!

Heather Budd, Integrity & Respect

Being an Arcanite means bringing your whole self to work everyday. We support and care for each other in good and bad times. Arcanites know how to work hard and celebrate hard.

Greg Vanigasooriyar, Balance & Fun

To me, being an Arcanite means leading by example, continually embracing challenges, and being a forward thinker. It also means giving your best daily and trying to positively impact the people around you.

What Does This Award Mean to You?

Trevor Carter, Magician

To me, the Magician is someone who sets a model for what an Arcanite should strive to be — at work and in the community. It’s a huge honour to be recognized for this award.

It was an incredibly difficult year for all of us in so many different ways. So winning this award this year, of all years, helps validate to me that I made people feel like we really could get through it all together.

Charlotte Emeljanow, Accountability

I put a lot of pressure on myself to produce amazing work. I’m extremely hard on myself and am impatient when it comes to achieving my goals so it’s easy for me to get caught up in that. Winning this award reminded me to slow down for a minute and appreciate how far I’ve come. I am extremely lucky that I get to wake up every day and do what I love. And I’m even luckier that I get to do it with people that believe in me.

Qyn Bayley-Hay, Empowerment

This award means so, SO much to me. In a year when it’s easy to feel isolated and alone, I have been made to feel connected and supported by my team. Being recognized by my peers is a humbling experience, and I would turn to each and every one of them and tell them that I’m not here if it weren’t for their incredibly selfless help when I felt overwhelmed along the way. Teamwork = Dream Work.

Heather Budd, Integrity & Respect

I’m honoured to have won the Integrity & Respect award. It truly means a lot. It’s been a tough year with many ups and downs, winning this award helped to fill my cup a little. For me, being respectful and having integrity trumps everything, and I’m thankful to be recognized by my peers for these qualities.

Greg Vanigasooriyar, Balance & Fun

I was so happy and humbled to receive this award. I do my best to be a “fun” guy and also preach balance, so to have these recognized means a lot. In the office, I do my best to be a big presence and make people laugh, smile, and have a good time, so seeing that I still had some of these impacts even working from home really means a lot.

How Do You Live by the Arcane Values?

Trevor Carter, Magician

I try to be kind, patient, and optimistic in whatever I do because I believe these traits are contagious in nature; the more they spread, the better life will be. When we take this approach in the work we do, we achieve better results and the work itself is more fulfilling.

Charlotte Emeljanow, Accountability

My work ethic is that unique combination of a genuine love for my job and an unrelenting fear of getting fired. But it’s working for me. I approach every project with excitement and tenacity because I’m still dumbfounded that I get paid to do this.

You know that saying: “if you love what you do, it isn’t work”? I believe in this company and I have so much passion for what I do that getting up and working my a** off everyday is the easiest thing in the world.

Qyn Bayley-Hay, Empowerment

Growth comes to those open to it, and I endeavour every day to remain open to criticism, guidance, and education. I always say that “if I don’t know something’s wrong, I can’t fix it”, so I constantly seek out ways to improve and seek to improve those around me along the way.

Heather Budd, Integrity & Respect

In my role as a Senior Account manager, I show appreciation for work well done and support others to be their best. I try to listen more than I talk and I like to have fun at work because it’s not all about work. It’s about getting to know people on a personal level and forming a strong connection.

Greg Vanigasooriyar, Balance & Fun

I take my physical and mental health extremely seriously. I know how important those things are to me, and I also know how much they have benefited me, so I try and preach that to others too. It’s important to work hard and give your all, but it’s also important to take care of yourself so you can give your best without getting burnt out.

What Does 2021 Hold for You?

Trevor Carter, Magician

If the last year has taught us anything, it’s that we need to be able to pivot on a moment’s notice. Anything could change at any time. So for this year, I’m keeping my sights on the present and not getting too far ahead of myself.

My professional goal is to continue to guide the team through our ever-changing reality and help Arcane continue to prosper. My personal goal is to stop overwatering my plants out of boredom.

Charlotte Emeljanow, Accountability

I’ve always been very goal oriented. Stagnancy has never really been an option in my life. This has allowed me to achieve a lot in a short amount of time. It also means I’m always looking for my next big move. But I still have so much to learn. This year, I’m focusing on appreciating where I’m at and challenging myself to do better.

Qyn Bayley-Hay, Empowerment

The world seems to be closing in on the end of this pandemic. There’s optimism. Hope. An upward trajectory for people’s spirits that shines as a beacon in the darkness of our collective feeling of uncontrollable decline. As a goal, I want to become a leader and a friend to as many as I can. As a plan, I am looking to see an ocean coastline, wherever that may be. As a dream… world peace. As a backup dream, though, I want to see the Arcane family in person again. Camp Arcane 2021… I BELIEVE!

Heather Budd, Integrity & Respect

2021 for me holds continued learning and growth. Professionally, I’d like to become more skilled in account strategy to provide even more value for my clients. Personally, I want to spend as much time with family and friends as possible and get back to travelling the world.

Greg Vanigasooriyar, Balance & Fun

This year will be another year of growth for me — personally, professionally, and physically. One thing I have learned is that you can always be better and work harder, so I want to find new levels to push to. To me, balance & fun and self-care is about striving to be the best version of myself. So that is what this year will be about!
